PDC Pilot Drilling Control Ltd Cutting Bed Impeller

Cutting Bed Impeller

The tool is run in the drill string at sections most affected by the build up of cuttings on the cutting bed. A short tool that is easily run in between stands of drill pipe and in conjunction with DSTR tools. When rotated with the drill string the chevron assymetric blades lift the cutting debris from the low side of the hole.

CBI

In highly deviated ERD wells, the higher pumping rates have minimal incremental effect on the low side of the hole, however the blade design ensures efficient sweeping of the cuttings back into the path of the faster moving flow stream on the high side of the hole.

Depending upon string rotation, flow rate, cutting sizes and mud weight, the tool remains effective over intervals of between 350 to 550 ft. This also provides a guide to optimising the spacing between the tools and preventing cutting bed build up by aiding the cuttings back to surface.

Tool Features

  • Mandrel designed to flex under high side loads
  • Mandrel strength higher than drill pipe
  • Patented mirrored helix blade profile
  • Five blades to aid smooth pipe rotation & minimise vibration
  • Available in blade dressing for open-hole or cased hole operations
  • Reduced casing wear with non metallic low friction dressing
  • Minimal rig space required for handling
  • Can be run in close proximity to DSTR tools to maximise drilling efficiency
  • Reduces drilling torque by lifting the cuttings off the low side of the hole, even at low rotary rpm
  • Tool effective in backward & forward reaming operations
  • Minimal number of tools required
